A14 Orwell Bridge maintenance work

Monday 25 January to Friday 12 March

Highways will be carrying out essential maintenance work at the above location. During this work, we’ll install additional signing and speed cameras and renew faded road markings and road studs.

We plan to complete this work over 7 weeks from Monday 25 January to Friday 12 March, working on weeknights only between the hours of 9pm and 5am, subject to weather conditions.

Most of this work will be carried out under lane closures and traffic will still be able to travel along this route. We will need to close the A14 between junctions 55 and 58 for approximately 2 weeks on weeknights only during this period. The dates and diversion route information is below.

We have closely liaised with the local authority to agree the most suitable diversion routes for these closures.

A14 between junctions 55 and 58, eastbound only, starting Monday 1 March to Friday 5 March (5 nights)

  • Eastbound traffic will be diverted off the A14 at junction 55, Copdock Interchange to follow the A1214 through Ipswich, along the A12 at Martlesham to re-join the A14 at junction 58. (Diagram 1)

A14 between junctions 58 and 55, westbound only, starting Monday 8 March to Friday 12 March (5 nights)

  • Westbound traffic will be diverted off the A14 at junction 58, join the A12 to Martlesham, follow the A1214 through Ipswich, before re-joining the A14 at junction 55, Copdock Interchange (Diagram 1)

A map of the diversion route can be found below.
