Remembrance Day Service

Legion Green (Behind All Saints Church)

Around this time over one hundred years ago, it was the middle of the 1st World War. This was the one they thought would be over by Christmas 1914 and this was later thought to be the “War to end  Wars”.

The Battle of the Somme lasted from 1 July until 18 November 1916 and some people feel it symbolises the futility of that War due to the number of young people on both sides who lost their lives or were wounded.  The battle was a series of attacks and counter attacks – the order to go “over the top” of the trenches for one of these efforts was signalled by a whistle, unlike the Maroon that is normally heard.

A whistle will be used as the signal to observe the two minute silence for the Remembrance Ceremony that takes place at the War Memorial on Legion Green in Kesgrave at 11am on Friday, 10th November 2017.

  • Please arrive by 10.45am.
  • This poignant event includes children from all local schools and the Army Cadets.
  • It is open to anyone who would like to gather as one to observe this important date.
